# How to get Upwork job alerts in 2026: every option compared

The fastest free way to get new Upwork jobs in 2026 is an alert service that watches your own search and sends matches to your phone. Upwork's own instant alerts need Freelancer Plus at $19.99 a month and follow the jobs you've already applied to.

Below is every option that works today, plus the one that doesn't (RSS), with what each costs, how fast it is, what you can filter, and how long setup takes. One disclosure up front: I build flconsole, one of the options on this list. I've tried to describe the rest the way their own pages do.

- **$19.99** — a month for Freelancer Plus, needed for Upwork's own instant alerts
- **Aug 2024** — Upwork switched off RSS feeds
- **$15–49** — a month for paid alert tools

## What does Upwork give you for free?

On the free Basic plan, Upwork sends no instant job alerts. What you get instead:

- **Saved searches.** You save a search with its filters, and it shows up in your job feed. You still have to open Upwork and check it yourself.
- **Job digest email.** Rising Talent and Top Rated freelancers can get an occasional email with recommended jobs, based on recent searches and proposals. It may not arrive every day or even every week.
- **Account notifications.** Messages, offers and contract updates reach you by email, in the mobile app and on desktop. These are about your account, not new job posts.

If you check Upwork a few times a day anyway, saved searches are enough. If you want jobs to come to you, read on.

[Try it live: set up a feed in 3 taps](https://flconsole.com/try) — Pick a search, filters in plain words and an AI filter, the same steps as in the bot. Then watch matching new Upwork jobs arrive in your browser. No sign-up, no Upwork login.

## How do Freelancer Plus job alerts work?

Freelancer Plus costs $19.99 a month (the price can vary by country) and includes 100 Connects a month, along with instant job alerts. According to Upwork Help:

- Alerts arrive by email, in the Upwork mobile app, or both. Upwork recommends the mobile app as the fastest channel.
- They're picked from jobs similar to ones you've sent proposals to as an individual, not through an agency.
- You need at least one proposal on an active job to get any.
- You can limit them to hourly or fixed-price jobs and set a lowest rate.

The key detail is that you don't type your own search. Alerts follow your proposal history, so if you stop applying, they thin out, and proposals outside your field shift what you get. There are no client filters such as money spent, hire rate or payment verified.

### What does the Freelancer Plus price pay for?

Of the $19.99 a month, the 100 Connects alone are worth $15. The instant alerts and the rest of the plan come to $4.99.

Source: Upwork's pricing page, US prices checked 7 October 2026; the price can vary by country. Connects valued at $0.15 each.

Data: What does the Freelancer Plus price pay for?

| Part of the plan | Value a month | Share of the price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 100 Connects | $15 | 75% |
| The rest of the plan | $4.99 | 25% |

**Is Plus worth it just for alerts?** Probably only if you'd use the rest of the plan. The 100 Connects alone are worth $15 at $0.15 each, so if you apply often, Plus mostly pays for itself. If alerts are the only reason, a free alert service covers that part.

## What happened to Upwork RSS feeds?

For years, the standard free answer was RSS: every Upwork search had a feed URL you could put into a reader, Slack, or a script. That's gone.

1. 6 August 2024

Upwork emails everyone who used an RSS feed recently: "beginning August 20, Upwork will no longer support RSS feeds." [source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41174888)

2. 20 August 2024

    RSS feeds stop working.

3. Since then

Upwork suggests saved searches in your job feed and its own notifications instead. [source](https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/52052528243731-RSS-deprecation)

On August 6, 2024, Upwork emailed recent RSS users: "beginning August 20, Upwork will no longer support RSS feeds." Feeds stopped working on August 20, 2024. Old links like `upwork.com/ab/feed/...` no longer return jobs, and there's no replacement feed. Upwork's help article on the change points freelancers to saved searches and its own notifications.

If you still have an old feed link, the search behind it still works. Open the same search on Upwork's job search page and copy the address. Many alert tools accept that link, flconsole included.

## Do browser extensions work for Upwork job alerts?

Yes, with one condition. The Chrome Web Store has several Upwork job-alert extensions. Most work by watching an Upwork search in your browser and showing a desktop notification when something new appears. Some add scoring or proposal helpers.

The condition: your computer and browser have to be on, and often you need to be signed in to Upwork in that browser. Extensions suit freelancers who sit at their desk all day. They're less useful on the go.

## What about paid Upwork job alert tools?

There's a whole category of dedicated services. They watch Upwork for new jobs, filter them, and send matches to Telegram, Slack, email or their own app. Many also offer AI scoring, AI-written proposal drafts, team features or analytics.

Pricing for the better-known tools with instant alerts runs about $15–49 a month. Some have free tiers or trials, usually with fewer features. Speed and filters depend on the tool and the plan, so check each one's pricing page for what's included.

These make sense if you want an all-in-one setup and the extra features are worth the monthly fee to you.

## Can you build your own alerts with Zapier or n8n?

You can, but it's a project, not a setting.

- **Zapier** doesn't list an Upwork app, so there's no ready "new Upwork job" trigger. Since RSS went away, Zapier setups need a third-party data source in the middle.
- **n8n** has community templates for Upwork alerts. One popular template pulls jobs through Upwork's GraphQL API, scores them with an OpenAI model and sends good ones to Telegram, checking every 15 minutes by default. It needs an Upwork API credential (OAuth2), an OpenAI key, a Telegram bot and somewhere to run n8n.

This route gives you full control over logic and format. The cost is setup time, API keys, upkeep when something breaks and, if you use the Upwork API, staying within Upwork's API terms (more on that below).

## Can an AI agent watch Upwork jobs for you?

Yes, and this is the newest option. AI agents like Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor connect to outside services through MCP (Model Context Protocol). There are two kinds of MCP servers worth knowing here.

### Upwork's own MCP server

Upwork launched its MCP server on August 10, 2026. It connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP apps to your Upwork account. Your agent can search jobs, open a job by link, show jobs Upwork recommends for you, draft and submit proposals, read and send messages, and handle offers and contracts. Every change waits for your confirmation. It's free; proposals still cost Connects.

It's built for acting in your account when you ask. It doesn't send alerts: to see new jobs, your agent has to search again. Upwork's API & MCP Terms of Use (§4.1) allow search for specific tasks you direct, but not activity designed to continuously monitor jobs. One freelancer on r/UpworkOfficial reported a policy violation after their agent checked every 15 minutes.

### flconsole's MCP server

flconsole runs a free hosted MCP server for your AI agent. It gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or the Claude app the new Upwork jobs from your feeds, with the same search, job and client filters as the Telegram bot. Your agent checks on request or on a schedule, as often as you like, and keeps the ones that fit. You sign in through Telegram. There's no API key, and it never connects to your Upwork account.

The two work well together. Connect both to the same agent: flconsole finds new jobs that fit, your agent drafts proposals, and Upwork's MCP sends the ones you approve. In Claude Code, a single line like `/loop 10m check new jobs in my feeds and show only relevant ones` turns that into a running job watcher. For the full routine with prompts to copy, see [how to get a daily Upwork job digest from your AI agent](https://flconsole.com/blog/upwork-job-digest-ai-agent).

1. **flconsole MCP**

finds new jobs on a schedule

2. **Your agent**

picks the ones that fit and drafts proposals

3. **You**

    approve each proposal

4. **Upwork's MCP**

    sends it from your account

## How does the flconsole Telegram bot work?

flconsole sends new Upwork jobs that match your search and filters to Telegram, within a minute of posting. It's free, forever: no card, no API key, no paid plan. Setup is three short messages:

1. **Search.** Type it the way you would on Upwork, with "exact phrases", OR and NOT, or paste the link of an Upwork search page.
2. **Filters.** Describe what you want in plain words, like `hourly from $40, expert only, clients from US or UK, payment verified, spent $1k+`. The bot shows you what it understood before the feed goes live.
3. **AI filter (optional).** Say what to skip, for example "no agencies, no unpaid test tasks". The AI filter reads each job that passed your filters and drops the ones that clearly break your rules. It's included, with no API keys and no credits.

You can run several feeds, say one per niche. Filters go further than Upwork's own alerts. Job filters cover rate, budget, experience level, project length and hours per week. Client filters cover money spent, hire rate, payment verified, rating, reviews, hours paid, account age and country. The point is to spend Connects on clients who actually hire.

flconsole never asks for your Upwork login, never connects to your Upwork account and never sends anything in your name. It collects new Upwork job posts itself. Applying is up to you, on Upwork, as usual. Send `/stop` to pause alerts; your feeds stay.

## Questions

### Are Upwork job alerts free?

No. The free Basic plan has no instant job alerts; Rising Talent and Top Rated freelancers get an occasional job digest email. Instant alerts come with Freelancer Plus at $19.99 a month. Free alternatives like flconsole send new jobs from your own search to Telegram.

### Does Upwork still have RSS feeds?

No. Upwork turned off RSS feeds on August 20, 2024, after emailing RSS users on August 6. Old feed links no longer return jobs, and Upwork offers no replacement feed.

### Can I choose my own keywords for Freelancer Plus alerts?

Not directly. Upwork picks alerts based on jobs you've sent proposals to. You can limit them to hourly or fixed-price jobs and set a lowest rate.

### Can Upwork's MCP server alert me to new jobs?

No. It answers when your agent asks and doesn't send alerts. Its terms (§4.1) don't cover continuous job monitoring. To have an agent watch new jobs, use a separate source such as flconsole's MCP server, which doesn't touch your Upwork account.

### Do I need to connect my Upwork account to flconsole?

No. flconsole doesn't need access to your Upwork profile. It never asks for your Upwork login, never connects to your Upwork account and never sends anything in your name.

### Do I still need Connects?

Yes. Every option here only finds jobs; applying happens on Upwork and costs Connects as usual.
