Upwork job alerts · free vs Freelancer Plus

# Upwork job alerts: how they work and a free alternative

Upwork's instant job alerts come with Freelancer Plus at $19.99 a month, and they're picked from jobs you've already applied to. The free Basic plan has no job alerts. flconsole is a free alternative: set your search and client filters once, and new matching jobs reach your Telegram within a minute of posting — or your AI agent over MCP. Spend Connects on clients who actually hire.

## How Upwork's own job alerts work

On the free Basic plan you get no job alerts. Freelancer Plus adds instant alerts by email or in the Upwork app, based on jobs you've sent proposals to.

### Free Basic plan

- No instant job alerts.
- Saved searches: your filters, saved to your job feed. You open them yourself.
- Job digest email — only for Rising Talent and Top Rated freelancers. It may not come every day or even every week.

### Freelancer Plus $19.99 a month

- Instant alerts by email, in the Upwork app, or both.
- Picked from jobs you've sent proposals to as an individual, not through an agency.
- You need at least one proposal on an active job to get them.
- You can limit them to hourly or fixed-price jobs and set the lowest rate.
- Also includes 100 Connects a month and other features.

### What you can't set in Upwork's alerts

- Your own search. Alerts follow your past proposals, not keywords you choose.
- Client filters: money spent, hire rate, payment verified or country.
- Delivery anywhere but email and the Upwork app.

- every email just says 'New job alert.' You have to open it to see what the role actually is [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/Upwork/comments/1syhzb4/)
- If you stop applying to jobs, the job alerts thin out. [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/Upwork/comments/1qf96nh/job_alerts_working/)

## Upwork job alerts not working? What to check

Most often the plan isn't active, there's no recent proposal to match, or your phone or inbox is filtering the alerts. All of it is fixable in a few minutes.

Where to change it: `Bell icon → Job alerts → Alert preferences`

No alerts at all

Instant alerts need an active Freelancer Plus plan and at least one proposal on an active job, sent as an individual. Proposals sent through an agency don't count.

Alerts stopped

Check your spam and promotions folders, and that Freelancer Plus is still active under Membership plan.

Email works, phone doesn't

Allow notifications for the Upwork app in your phone settings. Some battery savers and task-cleaner apps block them even when they're on.

Alerts arrive late

Upwork recommends its mobile app as the fastest channel. For a site-wide problem, check `status.upwork.com`.

Alerts don't match your skills

They follow the jobs you've applied to. Proposals outside your field shift what you get.

The job is gone when you open it

Usually the client removed it, or Upwork did for breaking its Terms of Service.

With flconsole you pick your own search, filter by client and get new jobs in Telegram — for free.

## How to stop Upwork job alerts

Turn off instant alerts in Alert preferences. The job digest has its own checkbox in Notification settings.

### Instant job alerts (Freelancer Plus)

1. Select the **bell icon** to open **Notifications**.
2. Open **Job alerts**, then **Alert preferences**.
3. Under "Send me instant job alerts by…", uncheck **Email** and **Mobile app notifications**.
4. Select **Save**.

### Job digest email

1. Open **Notification settings**, then **Email updates**.
2. Uncheck **Project recommendations for our Top Talent**.

Upwork notes that some account emails can't be turned off. In flconsole, send `/stop` to pause all alerts — your feeds stay.

## Free Upwork job alerts in Telegram, set up in 5 minutes

You choose the search, the job and client filters and what to skip. flconsole sends each new matching job to Telegram within a minute of posting. It doesn't depend on what you've applied to.

Tap **Get job alerts in Telegram** — no sign-up, no Upwork login. Then three messages:

1. ### Step 1: Search

Type it as you would on Upwork, or paste the link of an Upwork search page.

2. ### Step 2: Filters

Describe the jobs and clients you want in plain words: rate or budget, money spent, hire rate, payment verified, country.

3. ### Step 3: AI filter

Optional: say what to skip. It reads each job that passed your filters and drops the ones that clearly break your rules.

Add client filters — hire rate, money spent, payment verified — and spend Connects on clients who actually hire.

## Try it on live Upwork jobs

Three quick answers, the same as in the Telegram bot: a search, filters in plain words, what to skip. Then see the latest matching jobs and watch new ones arrive here. No sign-up, no Upwork login.

## Upwork alerts, Freelancer Plus and flconsole

## Is Freelancer Plus worth it for job alerts?

Only if you'd use the rest of the plan. Alerts are one part of it; the 100 Connects a month are the bigger one.

- ### Plus pays off if you apply a lot.

It includes 100 Connects a month. Bought separately at $0.15 each, that's $15 of the $19.99.

- ### For alerts alone, you don't need it.

flconsole sends new jobs from your own search and filters, free. You can keep Plus or the Basic plan — flconsole works with either.

## Does applying first actually help?

Sometimes. Early helps most on small and fixed-price jobs, where clients often hire from the first proposals. On larger projects, a clear proposal matters more than the minute you sent it.

Freelancers disagree on this. Some skip jobs older than ten minutes [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/Upwork/comments/1f3er4o/); others point out that serious clients don't hire in the first minutes [source](https://www.reddit.com/r/Upwork/comments/1rajbpa/). flconsole helps either way: you see new jobs within a minute, and client filters and the AI filter cut the ones you'd never take — so you spend Connects on clients who actually hire, with time to write a good proposal.

1. **Small and fixed-price jobs:** being early helps most — clients often hire from the first proposals.

2. **Larger projects:** a clear proposal matters more than the minute you sent it.

3. **Either way:** see new jobs within a minute and let client filters and the AI filter cut the ones you'd never take.

## Your Upwork account stays yours

- ### No Upwork login.

flconsole never asks for your Upwork account and can't act in it.
- ### Not from your account.

flconsole collects new Upwork job posts itself, never through your account.
- ### Nothing sent in your name.

flconsole never sends proposals or messages. Applying is up to you.
- ### Pause any time.

    Send `/stop`. Your feeds stay.

## Have an AI agent? Let it check new jobs for you.

flconsole's MCP server gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or the Claude app the same new jobs. Your agent checks them on request or on a schedule and keeps the ones that fit.

## Questions

### How do I get Upwork job alerts?

Upwork sends instant job alerts only on Freelancer Plus, and only after you've sent at least one proposal to an active job. For free alerts from your own search and filters, use a service like flconsole: new jobs reach your Telegram within a minute of posting. [Every way to get Upwork job alerts](https://flconsole.com/blog/how-to-get-upwork-job-alerts)

### Are Upwork job alerts free?

No. The free Basic plan has no job alerts; Rising Talent and Top Rated freelancers get an occasional job digest email. Instant alerts need Freelancer Plus at $19.99 a month. flconsole is free, forever.

### Why are my Upwork job alerts not working?

Check that Freelancer Plus is active, that you have a proposal on an active job sent as an individual, your spam folder and your phone's notification settings for the Upwork app. Alerts follow your past proposals, so they can thin out when you stop applying.

### How do I stop Upwork job alerts?

Select the bell icon, open Job alerts, then Alert preferences, uncheck Email and Mobile app notifications and select Save. The job digest is turned off in Notification settings, under Email updates.

### Is there a free Upwork job alert bot for Telegram?

Yes. flconsole's Telegram bot, @flconsole\_upwork\_job\_alerts\_bot, sends new Upwork jobs that match your search, job and client filters within a minute of posting, free, forever. Paid alert tools like Vollna, UpHunt and GigRadar cost $15–49 a month (prices checked 2 October 2026).

### What is flconsole?

flconsole is a free service that watches new Upwork jobs and delivers matching ones to your Telegram or to your AI agent over MCP.

### Do I need to connect my Upwork account?

No. flconsole doesn't need access to your Upwork profile: it never asks for your Upwork login, never connects to your Upwork account and never sends anything in your name.

### Do I still need Connects?

Yes. flconsole finds and filters jobs; applying happens on Upwork and costs Connects as usual.
